A glorious vintage washboard with a carved ledge attached. 
The point of the ledge would have been to hold the board up at one end, so that the item of clothing could be washed easier up and down on the slanted board, with the washer person kneeling behind the wedge. 
Nowadays it makes a wonderful rustic shelf and pin board. 
It has had some historic wood worm, we have treated it since we bought it just in case too.
