This is an extremely rare vintage, possibly art deco shelf light.
 
It would have been used in a department store hooked on the edge of a shelf that was displaying gift ideas.
 
It is a very rare piece and would make a real talking point. Perfect hooked onto the edge of a thin glass or wooden shelf. Or used as intended in a retail environment.
 
The lettering is cut out of a piece of metal with opaque glass behind and slides in and out of the casing, which indicates that it probably had various interchangeable display options.
 
It has been rewired and converted to LED as the original light fitting inside didn’t measure up to today’s safety standards and was indeed very dangerous, with exposed live parts. It is now safe and economical to use in the home.
