This is a very unusual, most probably unique, late Victorian marriage trunk. 
It has been hand made and has the original blacksmith made hinges and the inner candle box. 
It has at some point, possibly when new been covered and decorated with studs in a personalised design. There is a heart placed clearly on the lid which is quite a common thing to find on marriage trunks, for obvious reasons. On the front under the lock are two initials C&G in copperplate design font. These would have have been Christian name initials. 
It shows signs of its age mostly to the covering, which we feel adds to its history and charm, the trunk itself is still in very good condition. 
This is a gorgeous piece to have in a living room as a coffee table and conversation piece. Alternatively it will would make a lovely blanket box at the foot of the bed.
