A glorious example of Tramp Art.

Tramp Art is a style of wood work that emerged in America in the late 1800’s.

It is thought that it was introduced by immigrants from Germany and Northern Europe around the 1860’s.

Two of it defining characteristics include notch carving and the use of available wood, often cigar boxes.

Often a penknife was used to carve the notches and cut the pieces.

It was most common during the Great Depression. Tramp Art was made around the world, but most popular at the time in America.

This awesome little example is super nice with the hole worn on the top of the first large drawer, where it has been opened in that spot regularly. The photos are original and mounted in bevel edged glass.

There is a small piece missing on the top right, however this is minimal damage considering it’s great age and what it was constructed from.

Measurements: 21 x 14 x 36cm high
