This is a fabulous wooden vintage dairy bucket with 3 metal bands around it. 
The design of wider at the bottom than the top is like that so that it didn’t topple over, during milking. 
This one has the most glorious patina, the inside looks like it has had a more recent repaint, as it is cleaner, though it doesn’t spoil its look one bit. 
I have displayed it with spring flowers in, but it would make a great bucket for kindling or with towels rolled up in it in the bathroom with brushes/loofahs, etc
