This is a fabulous example of the traditional old French letter box. 
In original paint and totally untouched. It bears the plaque of Dr J Faur and the translation of the details is “ At the back of the courtyard” 
An decorative piece. Add a few hooks to the inside and hang your keys, keep your love letters in it!
