A bucket bench is a bench that would have been placed by the back door or in a porch, in the days when homes didn’t have running water. 
It would have held the buckets of the house, which would be kept full of water for washing, drinking, cooking etc. 
When the man of the house went out, if there was an empty bucket he would fill it up from the well or the pump and place it back on the bench, this was often the man of the house’s chore. 
Now a perfect place to perch and put your shoes on in a hallway or boot room. Alternatively it would be a lovely window seat or nice at the foot of the bed.
