This a fabulous antique French jar. 
Hand painted, and of glorious proportions! The pharmacist always had the best jars and bottles in my opinion. 
This would have stood in a row with others the same, though all unique as no two could be painted identically. They would have contained dried herbs or similar. 
This is an absolutely exquisite piece for the home, as well as a jar it would make a beautiful vase. 
There’s wear from years of handling , especially to the lid, however no cracks or nibbles that I can see.
