Italian Grand Tour Oil on Paper Nymph Paintings 19th Century
ยฃ95.00Price
These beautiful 19th century nymphs are painted with oil on paper, inspired by frescoes found in Pompeii.
They were popular grand tour souvenirs. The grand tour was a European trip taken by upper class young men and the paintings were a symbol of cultural sophistication.
They are painted on paper and mounted on board, in a scumble finish frame. Thereโs some slight rippling, which is not unusual for an artifact of this age and possibly from being in their frames for a long period of time.
This pair were discovered in France on our last trip.
