These are fabulously collectible treen pieces and command high prices. 
This example is made from lignum vitae and is in excellent condition, still having remnants of its original label. 
Dating from the late 1800’s and contains a ball of old string, may be original! 
Is practical today, is practical today as when it was new as when it was new!!
