This lovely little ecclesiastical cabinet was custom built by Bressers Studio to sit in a church sacristy or baptistery. It is known as an ambry, which is a cupboard in a Christian church to store, sacred vessels, vestments, books or holy oils.

This one was definitely for the oils, hence the

S O on the doors (sacra olea)

It would have held, 3 glass or silver jars of blessed oils.

It still retains its original label on the base, which bears the guild mark of Christian sculptors and woodworkers. It also has a lovely little key, however sadly the lock doesn’t work.
