This Ionic capital would have adorned the top of a fluted column, in the Greek style. 
Typical Ionic capital characteristics are the volutes (the scrolls to you and me) and the egg and dart design around the circular base. 
I am displaying it inverted, it would normally have been used the other way up. However it makes a glorious display plinth as it stands. 
It has had some restoration during its lifetime, however this doesn’t take anything away from its splendour. 
This is a true statement piece and a wonderful example of unique history
