Aesthetic Movement Specimen Cabinet Circa 1880

Aesthetic Movement Specimen Cabinet Circa 1880

£135.00Price

We love this little glass fronted (original glass) specimen cabinet.

An unusual size, to sit on top of a larger cabinet or desk

The doors open to reveal three trays that can be slid out completely, the purpose of these were to hold specimens of shells, flora, or small mementos from travels. They would display behind the glass but could then be removed on each individual tray to show anyone interested in your collection.

From the aesthetic period, which is synonymous with the hand painted detailing on the cabinet itself.

In fabulous condition for its great age. It has unfortunately lost its key so doesn’t lock, though the doors can be opened easily. There would have originally been 4 trays, however one has got lost in the midsts of time. This doesn’t detract from the beauty of the cabinet and allows the trays to be moved up or down to accommodate larger pieces.

Measurements: 46 x 23 x 31cm high
