A very unusual and rare French document box, which has the most glorious worn and rustic patina. 
The box itself is made of wood and the lid/door has originally been covered in leather and made to look like a pair of books. 
Embossed in gilt with the words ANNEE COURANTE (current year), 
2nd TRIMESTRE (2nd Trimester), NOTAIRE (Lawyer), Me. DELAPALME (Madame Delapalme). 
So this was a document box for a French lady solicitor. It has been well used in its lifetime and is so very decorative. 
Use it on a desk or cupboard or hang it as a cupboard on the wall. It would make a stunning cabinet in the bathroom.
