A Pair of Victorian Portraits Oil on Canvas
Two Victorian oil on canvas portraits.
These are husband and wife, Mr & Mrs Robinson. They have never been separated and are a lovely pair.
As you can see Thomas has some damage, however this for us does not detract from this painting, his kindly face is untouched. Catherine has wear to the side of the canvas however nothing major otherwise.
There is no obvious evidence of a signature, however these portraits are extremely well painted, by a well accomplished artist.
Their names and dates of birth and death are on the back of the canvasses along with details of William Whiteley Ltd, fine art department. This could be the company that framed them or even painted them. WM Whiteley was the owner of a large department store, which first opened around 1863 in Queens Road, W2.
Measurements: 52 x 61cm high.
